This proposed 34 ha industrial development sits in a low-lying flood prone area near Hastings. e2Environmental developed and modelled clever engineering solutions which will reduce the flood risk at the site and in the Whakatū and Clive townships.
e2Environmental provided a hydrological and hydraulic assessment to quantify the expected flood risk on site and in the surrounding catchment including the Karamū Stream. This was then extended to include several flood mitigation options in the fully developed scenarios. The recommended option was to collect stormwater runoff in a storage basin and pump the water to the adjacent Karamū Stream.
This solution allows for effective management of stormwater on-site up to the 1% AEP (100-year average return period) storm event including the effects of climate change. It also provides flood mitigation benefit to the Whakatū and Clive township communities.
Flood control on a catchment wide scale. Efficient cost-effective above ground pumps from the Netherlands which are now tried and proven in the North Canterbury region post-earthquake.
e2Environmental provided innovative solutions to tricky engineering problems.
