A local property development group wanted to develop a new retail space in Ashburton on 2 ha of land that was formerly a transport yard.

The servicing of this site had to overcome constrains with moderate soil contamination, previous un-controlled filling, and a water table that fluctuates seasonally within 3 m of existing surface, and the carparking requirements meaning that there was no space left to install conventional stormwater basins to manage stormwater runoff from impervious surfaces.

Working with the project’s geotechnical and environmental engineers, e2Environmental designed a stormwater system that utilised ground soakage in vaults, located between remediated areas and in locations that would experience traffic loadings.
